Colleen Beck, OTR/L

Colleen is the owner and author of the The OT Toolbox (www.theottoolbox.com). The website, its email newsletter, and its social media channels reach millions of occupational therapy practitioners, teachers, parents, and caregivers each month. On the The OT Toolbox, she strives to connect resources and tools to those helping children thrive. She is on a mission to help kids thrive.

Colleen is also the author and creator of The Sensory Lifestyle Handbook, a popular resource on integrating sensory diets into a functional and meaningful lifestyle. She has created hundreds of printable resources, packets, e-books, worksheets, and handouts designed to promote function and well being of children and their families.

Sara Best, OTR/L

Dr. Best is a certified Autism Specialist, has presented at national conferences, and has collaborated on several articles that have been published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Best has recently joined AOTA’s AFWCC ad hoc committee to address fieldwork issues in occupational therapy, and is the chair of a subcommittee on student issues relating to Level II fieldwork. Dr. Best continues to work hard to secure fieldwork placements that are personalized to students’ individual interests and needs, increasing the number of affiliations and potential fieldwork sites.

Jamesdean Visley, OTR/L

As one of the two capstone coordinators for the OTD program, Dr. Visley helps facilitate student success through development and implementation of a doctoral capstone project. Dr. Visley is passionate about both assistive technology and the pediatric setting and has specific interests relating to ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Sensory Integration, and disability ministries. He maintains clinical experience through work at a local pediatric outpatient clinic and has contributed to research and scholarly articles relating to the carryover of OT interventions outside of the clinic setting, establishing new special needs ministries, understanding the effects of Sensory Integration on the participation of children with ASD, and universal design and community inclusion. He consults on an as-needed basis with churches that are hoping to develop special needs/disability ministries, which aligns with his own doctoral capstone work.

Madeline Eklund, OTR/L

Madeline is a recent graduate of Huntington University's Occupational Therapy Doctoral program. She is currently working in Northwest Ohio in pediatrics and is very passionate about her job. She loves to serve kids and their families by helping them reach developmental milestones through her job as an occupational therapist.

My Family

I cannot thank my family enough for all of the help and support that they provided me with throughout the time of writing this book. Becoming a published author to achieve the goal of helping parents while in graduate school was a huge undertaking. It is certainly something I never would have been able to do without their help!
